JULIA TOLKACIOVA of RUSSIAN MUMS IN UK
JuliaT-014

My younger sister is a language badass. Seriously, the girl is nearly fluent in French, regularly assumed to be a native Russian speaker and can actually impress the socks off someone in Mandarin. And thanks to high school French, sibling Russian lessons at 30,000 feet and watching a Ted talk from the creator of Chineasy, I suppose a penchant for linguistics runs in the family. And by that, I mean I can order a crepe, raise a few eyebrows with an unexpected spasiba and write “tree” in Mandarin. So I probably wouldn’t do so well if you plopped me in a foreign country where all I could do was feed myself carbs, say thank you or feign interest in arboriculture with tree character doodles. And that is why what Julia Tolkaciova has done with her website, Russian Mums in UK, is so incredibly impressive. Her site, which is entirely in Cryillic, is a comprehensive resource for Russian-speaking mothers living in – you guessed it – the United Kingdom, sharing information on schooling, extracurricular activities and a range of inspirational interviews. Julia also organizes numerous seminars, events and classes in an effort to bring together the Russian community, primarily in London. And to that I say молодец and удачи!
